Page Builders

Visual Composer While this is a paid plugin, this is the page builder that JAM loves, and comes bundled with many Themeforest themes such as Salient. However the plugin can be purchased on its own for $30, meaning you get the most recent version (as opposed to what is bundled with the theme), or use it with other themes that don’t come bundled with the plugin. Additionally, newer versions of this plugin allow devs to integrate their own shortcodes into the Visual Composer GUI. http://codecanyon.net/item/visual-composer-page-builder-for-wordpress/242431

Contact Form

Ninja Forms Easy to setup, including AJAX submission. Very advanced form inputs with the ability for subtotal and total form fields. Dev friendly codebase is very flexible with manyhooks. Some performance issues in the admin side when lots of form fields are used ( > ~75 ie, if you are doing e-commerce things, use an e-commerce plugin. ) https://wordpress.org/plugins/ninja-forms/
Contact Form 7 Easily manage many forms, inserting them via shortcodes throughout the site. http://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/

Social Sharing Toolkit Used this on the DWD Summit site http://wordpress.org/plugins/social-sharing-toolkit/
Simple Share Buttons Adder Afton uses this one on her site https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-share-buttons-adder/
SumoMe Afton uses this quite a lot. Lots more social features for sharing and to help grow your traffic https://wordpress.org/plugins/sumome/,http://sumome.com/
Disqus Another Afton favorite for a more social commenting system https://disqus.com/

Analytics

Google Analytics for WordPress – Yoast supported by Yoast. Can track downloads and outbound clicks. Though I haven’t tried yet, I am intrigued by the tracking of page views via ‘Post type’.

For example, enwaken.com makes us of two custom post types for some major parts of business ‘Meditations’ and ‘Financial Fitness’ posts. Using this they could potentially see which group contribute what percentage of the site’s pageviews.

Jetpack – WordPress.com Stats1 Part of jetpack. This is an easy way to see which posts and pages are generating much of the traffic. http://jetpack.me/support/wordpress-com-stats/#view-stats

Backup

Back WP up Schedule db backups with lots of options. http://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/
WP Duplicator Great way to clone an existing site, including files and DB, and then restore into a new location. I most often use this plugin when I’m pulling a site that is new to me, down to my local machine for hacking away on. Afterwards I usually delete the plugin, and use backwpwup to get more recent db dumps. http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator
WordPress Search and Replace Tool While not really a WP plugin, this tool helps by correctly updating serialized arrays. So for example, cloning a live DB to a dev site, you need to update the url string. This is the tool for you. Thx LD for finding this originally. http://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
WP-DBManager This is one I have used for a while to backup/restore db, schedule backups (daily, weekly, etc) to the server or email. Easy to use and setup. http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-dbmanager/

W3 Total Cache Lots of flexibility for simple caching. http://wordpress.org/plugins/w3-total-cache/
NextGen Gallery WP’s core handling of images is pretty good. However if a site starts to make heavy use of images, NextGen is pretty awesome. Quick and automatic Lightbox integration. Easy uploads. Good management of galleries as a whole. http://wordpress.org/plugins/nextgen-gallery/
Post Thumbnail Editor Sometimes WP doesn’t crop very well, and the best looking thumbnail would be better created by a human. This plugin allows you to edit the thumbnail of an image.

For example, you set a featured image to a post. The image looks good at full size, which you display on single posts, but on archive pages, the 150×150 thumbnail isn’t centered right for the artistic eye. Use this plugin to make it right!

Duplicate Post

Clone posts and pages.

Login Logo This is pretty cool for that client that wants lots of customization. You can customize the logo on the WordPress login screen. http://wordpress.org/plugins/login-logo/
mb.miniAudioPlayer Nice, clean looking, small HTML5 audio player with great controls. http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-miniaudioplayer/
Ultimate Coming Soon Page Great tool for sites in development. You can customize with html/css/google fonts. http://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-coming-soon-page/
Widget Context Show or hide widgets on certain sections of site – front page, posts, pages, archives, search, etc. It also features section targeting by URLs (with wildcard support). http://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-context/
Safe Redirect Manager This is a nice redirect plugin with super easy UI. It’s being used on DWD and it is now installed on MMBLOG. It uses the wp_safe_redirect function which only allows redirects to whitelisted sites/pages. http://wordpress.org/plugins/safe-redirect-manager/

As a side note, I think that we should make more use in general of the Jetpack plugin. There are many modules that come with this plugin, including the ability to ‘Publicize’ ( push notifications to social media pages on post publication ), Stats, updates to the built in ‘gallery’ shortcode, and more! See : http://jetpack.me/ for full list of free and purchasable modules to jetpack.
